British Composer Julia Thomsen Proves UK Talent Has Global Appeal

Posted on 28 January 202630 January 2026 by Editors

Here at Classical Week, we love to see classical composers doing well, and Julia Thomsen is definitely one to watch. The London based pianist has quietly built something special, racking up over 18 million Spotify streams with her piano pieces that blend neoclassical and new age sounds.

Her track “Romantic Embrace” just earned a World Entertainment Award nomination in the Best New Age Song category. The awards bring together creators from across the entertainment world, so it’s good company to be in.

Thomsen’s work has already made its way onto BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4, and BBC Radio London. If you’ve been watching Sky Sports Italia, Channel 4, or anything on Apple TV lately, there’s a chance you’ve heard her music without even realizing it.

She’s kicking off 2026 with “Forever,” a new piece for piano and live strings that she’s calling essential listening. For anyone following what’s happening in contemporary classical music across the UK, Thomsen offers a fresh perspective on where piano composition is heading.

Good luck, Julia!
